FESTIVAL InterCeltic OF AVILéS Y REGION
InterCeltic festival of Avilés and Region
Edition XIV
COMMENTS
The InterCeltic Festival of Avilés and Region is a festival that is celebrated to the summer beginning in Avilés (Asturias, Spain) from 1997. It is dedicated to the cultural traditions (and his evolutions) of the called Celtic countries, with special weight of the music and of the dance, although also he gathers other forms of art like the painting, the photo, the theater, the sculpture, the craft as well as sports, gastronomy, etc. the Cultural Association Esbardu organizes It.
The idea of doing a festival of this type in Avilés arises, as told in enough occasions the persons in charge of the association, in the first participation of Esbardu in the recognized InterCeltic Festival of Lorient in 1993, where they remained amazed by the magnitude of the same one and began to prepare the idea of making something similar (as far as possible) in Asturias, and more specifically in his city. This way, in the summer 1997 the project GIVES CREDIT obtains one of three subsidies approved by the Government of the Asturias, the insignificant one, as well as other one granted by the Town hall of Avilés. The success and the good reception of this first edition served so that the organization was deciding to continue with the festival, in spite of the economic deficit.
In the edition of 2006 the festival was provided with 1.175 direct participants distributed in 150 acts programmed in 11 days that the same one lasted, joining 800 musicians, ballet dancers and actors in the same defile.
In 2008 it has been distinguished like Holiday of Regional Tourist Interest, what has consolidated this festival inside the panorama of the Celtic music.
