The first edition of the International Festival of Musician Castell de Peralada dates of 1987 and since then it is celebrated uninterruptedly July and August in the monumental set of the Castle of Peralada. The Festival has organization, management and private financing, dependent on Associació Cultural Castell de Peralada, without lucre fortitude, presided by Mrs. Carmen Mateu de Suqué.

In 1992 the Festival began to be part of the selective European Association of Festivals (EFA), being consolidated thus like a Festival of high quality next to names as important as Bayreuth, Berlin, Florence or Salzburg. Later, in 2006 XXI began to be part of the Spanish Association of Theaters, Festivals and Periods of Opera and from the year 2007 he is also a member of the Spanish Association of Festivals of Classical music (FestClásica).

The Festival Castell de Peralada dedicates his attention to recitals of big voices, symphonic - choral concerts, operas, spectacles you will interdiscipline of music and theater, dance, jazz, concerts of pop music, concerts of camera and familiar spectacles.

From the Festival one supports the composers and artists of the state entrusting scores and projects, which enrich the cultural set of our country. To the others, it is invited to inform soloists and formations of international prestige of different artistic disciplines. This philosophy is the one that has made possible that Peralada enjoys a prestige recognized beyond our borders and that it is considered to be one of the most important cultural events of all that they are celebrated in Spain in the summer epoch.

The Festival Castell de Peralada is a member of the European Association of Festivals (EFA), the Spanish Association of Theaters, Festivals and Periods of Opera XXI and of the Spanish Association of Festivals of Classical music (FestClásica)
