In the year 1994, the locality decides to open his doors to show to the world all his beauty and the attraction of a past characterized by the coexistence of three cultures, the Arabic, the Jewish woman and the Christian. Fact that awards, to the character of the alburquerqueño, a special singularity.

It is so when the Medieval Festival is born Town of Alburquerque and there are, therefore, the proper alburquerqueños the first ones in comprising the importance of this birth.

The Festival is celebrated in summer, in the second August two weeks, and for several days there enjoys itself an age where the credulity was the best ingredient for the superstition. Where the treachery was paid by death and the allegiance with wealths. Where the ways of the adventure were long and the gentlemen could reach his destination after the knife-edge of a sword.

To penetrate the limits of the enclosure walled to penetrate into the medieval Alburquerque quarter during these days means to liberate the barrier of the time, to give in to give free rein to the imagination and to allow to wrap for daily scenes of the epoch.

And all this protected by one of the better preserved fortitude of Spain, the Castle of Moon. His place, in the high places of the Saw of San Pedro, grants a domineering position to him on the population who crashes exceedingly.

The Medieval Festival fulfills this year his XVI edition. A holiday that began with the collaboration of scarcely a hundred of persons and there has turned into a national cultural modality endorsed with the attainment of the Award World Theater, summoned at European level, and granted like better collective interpretation to the Alburquerque neighbors. It contains the quality stamp of the Meeting of Extremadura – SCENA and the Declaration of Holiday of Regional Tourist Interest.

The Festival was born with the intention of making use of the important hereditary and historical wealth of the town and with it, of recovering the life and customs of an epoch in which diverse cultures coexisted between the intramural ones of the town.

From the proper resources of the population: historical, cultural, natural and social one tries from his beginnings to promote the tourist, economic development and social participation.

One of the characteristics that does that our Festival is singular is the outstanding implication that the neighbors of the locality have, up to such a point, that we can say that without his participation the Medieval Festival would lack sense. From the children up to more the biggest, they take part of direct or indirect form, in some of the acts that develop, turning into actors, choreographers, the directors, historians, designers and a length etc.
